Ikuno Gakuen’s Mission
Ikuno Gakuen will work to create a society free from violence and discrimination, where every individual will be respected as a human being and feel safe to live. To that end, we will:
- Operate a shelter and hotline/counseling services to tackle the society’s problems with domestic violence, abuse, and sexual violence. When we experience violence or the fear of violence in the foundation of our lives, our homes or intimate relationships, it threatens our lives and very existence.
- Create networks and systems, spaces to support recovery where survivors can speak out. Now there are not enough local supports for a life after violence and whole mind/body recovery.
- Create a safe space, open to the community, that is easy to access, that supports people to access information and participate fully in community life. Without a safe home or safe space, we risk exploitation in sexual relationships or the sex industry.
- Provide a safe place for LGBT(lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender)survivors to talk about domestic violence, abuse, and sexual violence. We can face sexual discrimination and difficulty surviving in the society.
